Twitter - The Basics

After Tuesdays "Social Network" meeting with Visit Chester & Cheshire we've noticed a couple of new Twitter accounts being registered in the local area.
While there are no definite rules about how to treat Twitter, there are some basics that should help.
- Bio - Your bio is especially important in the early stages of your twitter account as this is one of the few pieces of information new followers will judge you on. Keep it short and simple, I would recommend that you tell people what they can expect from following your account.
- Website - If your aim is to convert followers into paying clients you should make sure that they can find your website. Without a website link your followers will find it difficult to see exactly what service or product you are offering.
- Image - Missed by many, but probably as important as your Bio and Website link. I cant remember ever following a twitter account that didnt have a profile image. Your profile image (and to a lesser extent your background) helps to brand your account. Every time you tweet your profile image will be shown at the side of it, try and keep it bright and colourful, you want to stand out in the stream of tweets that your followers are seeing.

Both of these pieces of your information can be updated in the Settings page, under "Profile", your followers will see this information on twitter in the right hand column of your page.
