A-Level Education
Tarporley Community High School
For two years between September 1999 and July 2001 I studied 5 A-Levels at Tarporley Sixth Form these were Pure Mathematics, Statistics, Mechanical Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and General Studies.
After achieving 9 G.C.S.Es it was obvious that my talents where focused in Mathematics and Science, this led me to choose the following A-Level subjects along with General Studies.
-
Double A-Level in "Mathematics with Further Mathematics"
(Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics) - Chemistry
- Physics
Tarporley had an excellent team of Mathematics teachers including Barbara Young who wrote the Mathematics text book series "Maths is...". During my time studying my Mathematics A-levels I assisted in proof reading both the text books and the model answers, these would later be printed and sold to schools and colleges across the UK. More information about these text books can be found on the "Maths is..." website.
Physics was split between two of the science departments teachers, James Blackford and John Stone. Part of the Physics course overlapped with the Mechanical Mathematics course I was taking, this helped give me a practical demonstration of some of the work we had been doing in our theory lessons.
My chemistry lessons reinforced the information we had learnt at GCSE level. Working as part of a group to carry out experiments helped to build my team work and leadership skills.
